Project Ver Background

By 2030, there will be over half a million Australian's with low to no vision. That's just over 2% of Australian's who do not have a uniform experience navigating our world. Having spoken to many stakeholders over the course of this project, our team has gotten a glimpse into how difficult even basic daily tasks are for members of this community. We have also begun to learn just what the world looks like for the low-to-no-vision community, with some examples seen below so that you can begin to understand too.

What Makes Us Different

Through these discussions with stakeholders and subject matter experts, we have noticed that there are several prevailing issues with a lot of the existing assistive technology. The biggest of these issues being: they are expensive, burdensome to the user, and are too general purpose - not being designed specifically for, and in conjunction with, the low-to-no vision community. It's clear to see that a perfect solution does not yet exist, otherwise, everyone would already be using it.

In our quest to find the right solution to this problem, our key focus in the initial stages of our project has been on understanding the needs of the low-to-no-vision community. This has given us the unique opportunity to create a device in close collaboration with those who will use it. We would like to thank everyone who has given us their time, and we welcome additional feedback at all stages through our form below, email (projectver2025@gmail.com),  or social media.
